WELCOME to the DEMOCRATIC PARTY of CARROLL COUNTY, AR!

Happy New Year, Democrats!

We have accomplished a lot in 2021, but "we have miles to go before we sleep".

Do not stop giving up hope or stop your energy. This is the year we need you more than ever.

Our democracy depends on our hard work and fervor to keep it out of the hands of the fringe right.

With that being said, I am so proud of all of you for stepping up and gathering signatures for the gerrymandering petition. I was proud to mail a large packet to Little Rock.

We will be having our meeting later this month - trying to watch numbers before making the decision to meet in person or virtually.

The important thing is that there will be election of officers and we need all of you to consider where you will plug in.

Do you have a desire to lead? We need nominations for chair and vice chair, and remember, they must be alternating sex. For example: if chair is female, then vice must be male.

Please consider serving!! We need new energy and fresh ideas.

Watch your email for the upcoming meeting date.

And stay engaged! We will not make changes by sitting on the sideline.

Onward!

Suzie Bell, Chair

Democratic Party of Carroll County

15 Minutes to Make a Difference!

Hello Democrats,

I had the opportunity to participate in a meeting about redistricting. It was so informative. The most important take-away was:

WE HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE THE GERRYMANDERING!

Here is what I need you to do RIGHT NOW. Stop what you are doing and log into these two sites to register your public comments. It only takes 15 minutes or so.

Community of Interest report https://APJMM.news/ARedistrictingFairMaps

Public Comments for House https://APJMM.news/HouseMapComments

You can comment about how 30 cities have been split into 2-3 districts. You do not have to be a resident of that city. For example, Pulaski County has been split into 3 districts, Springdale into 2, Jacksonville into 3. All of this disenfranchises communities of color.

Also, sign the petition to VETO referenda on Act 1114 and Act 1116 that brought these terrible new districts into play.

THESE PETITIONS ARE OF UTMOST IMPORTANCE. We need to have 54.000 signatures over 15 counties to get this on the ballot for midterms, so that we can UNDO the current redistricting. Please use this link to print the petition, on legal size paper, and, over Christmas, get these signatures from family and friends. If we all do this, we can make a difference and get this on the ballot.

THIS IS A CHRISTMAS PRESENT TO OUR REPUBLICAN LEGISLATORS FOR THE CONTINUED CRAP THEY HAVE DONE TO OUR STATE!

Merry Christmas, and Fight On!

More Information for You!

Most home printers are unable to handle legal size paper. My Office, 103 Van Buren, Eureka Springs, will provide the documents you need to collect signatures to veto the current gerrymandered redistricting plan. Go to My Office between 9am and 5pm this week to pick up the forms.

Here's what you need to know:

  • You are a 'volunteer canvasser.' You must complete the information in the bottom left corner of the form. Your signature, as the volunteer canvasser, must be notarized. Most banks will notarize the form for you.

  • As the volunteer canvasser, you cannot sign your own form. (Clearly, citizen petitions have been designed to be as hard as possible to successfully complete.) But you can sign on someone else's form.

  • Each page of signatures must have the two-page petition stapled to it.

  • Signatures must match your voter identification card. It is fast and easy to check online using a smartphone: Arkansas Secretary of State | VoterView (ar-nova.org)

  • Ask the person to sign legibly and print legibly. Scrawled signatures are frequently rejected.

We are, unfortunately, down to the wire on these signature pages. We only have until the 28th! Set a goal! Shoot for one page of signatures; that's only ten signatures, but if every Democrat secures ten signatures, we can get this done. If you can't get ten signatures, just get as many as you can.

These signatures will not only be used to petition for a constitutional referendum, but will also be used to support pending litigation against the gerrymandered districts.

Return your completed, notarized signature pages on or before December 28, along with the attached two-page petition, to My Office, who has agreed to serve as a collection point, and we will ensure that they are bundled and sent to the correct address.

Hausler Submits Resignation

With regret, the Executive Committee of the Democratic Party of Carroll County (DPCC) recently accepted the resignation of Chair Doug Hausler. Doug served as Secretary from 2017-2019, and accepted the position of Chair in 2019.

Doug led the way as DPCC promoted Democratic candidates in 2020, and has assisted every local party function since 2017. He willingly shared his time, talent, and expertise to help grow the party.

Suzie Bell, Vice Chair, will serve as Chair until an election is held during the first quarter of 2022.

With local parades back on the calendar, the DPCC has been getting our new float back out into Carroll County events! We honored our local veterans by participating in the Eureka Springs Veteran Parade in October - it was a picture-perfect Fall day, and Forrest Bell - a Blue Dog Democrat if there ever was one - represented out canine contingent.

December brought the Christmas Light Parade, and we were delighted to join in with the great turnout! Our group scored a great spot just behind the Eureka Springs Highlander Marching Band - they kept the pep in our elfy steps as we handed out candy.
Do you know RICCI, our mascot, has his own personal costumer? Margy Thompson is responsible for all his dapper looks. Stay tuned for his Mardi Gras appearance!

We are thrilled about the participation at our Drinks With Dems event on October 14th! Thanks to Eureka Live, it went off without a hitch - even with a last-minute move indoors and a switch to dance floor lighting! Disco balls make everything more festive!

The atmosphere was energized, the raffle prizes and silent auction items were in high demand, and we raised a lot of money for our candidate support coffers!

Goldi Gaines, Lauren Mallett-Hays for Arkansas, Natalie James for Arkansas, Dan Whitfield for Senate 2022, Josh Price for Arkansas, Jesse Gibson for Arkansas, & James Richard Russell III all showed up to meet and greet our locals, and their camaraderie was inspiring! This is the spirit we need in our Democratic Party of Arkansas!

More thanks to Eureka Springs Channel, Keels Creek Winery, Cafe Amore, Quicksilver Gallery, Gaskins Cabin Steakhouse, Basin Park Hotel, 1886 Crescent Hotel & Spa, Alexa Pittenger, Amigos Mexican Restaurant & Cantina, Alpine Liquor, Marcie Brewster, Linda Crowley, Edwige Denyszyn, Original Ozark Folk Festival, Nancy Paddock, Palace Hotel & Bath House Spa, Posh Hair Studio, Healing Benefits Massage Therapy Co, Paradise Pottery, Nelson's Eureka Springs, My Farmhouse Cafe and Bakery, Mei Li Cuisine, and everyone who attended, bid, helped, and cheered on our candidates!

Democratic Volunteers Help with COVID Vaccinations

Smith Drugs, ECHO Clinic, and volunteers from the Democratic Party of Carroll County have teamed up to help in the delivery of the COVID 19 Moderna vaccine here in Carroll County.

Under the direction of Suzie Bell and Dr. Dan Bell, the group has delivered over 1,370 first shots of the vaccine to those who have signed up through Smith Drugs in Eureka Springs. The group has been delivering between 200 and 400 shots per week.

Now with the eligibility criteria being expanded, it is expected that the workload will also expand.

A drive-through venue and a large team of volunteers on the telephone and administrating the shots have provided this effort a lead in Carroll County. Of the current 4,053 first-time shots provided in Carroll County, this group of volunteers has stepped up and provided over 1/3 of the county shots. There are 5 other venues that also provide COVID vaccinations throughout the county.

We are not celebrating yet, as Carroll County is behind (only 18% of the county has received a first shot) some of the leading counties in Arkansas that have over a 25% first vaccination rate. With the continued efforts of this team, we will continue to provide the needed community support.

Kudos to all of the volunteers, staff, and personnel who have made this a continuing success. Another example of Democrats are working hard to ensure the health of all of Carroll county.
